The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially released the notification for the Combined Medical Services Examination (CMSE) 2025. Vacancy Distribution

The available vacancies are divided into two categories:

  1. Category-I – Medical Officers in the Central Health Service (226 vacancies)
  2. Category-II
    • Assistant Divisional Medical Officer in Railways – 450 vacancies
    • General Duty Medical Officer in New Delhi Municipal Council – 9 vacancies
    • General Duty Medical Officer Grade II in Municipal Corporation of Delhi – 20 vacancies

Some vacancies are also reserved for candidates with benchmark disabilities as per government norms.

UPSC CMS 2025 Eligibility Criteria

1. Nationality

To be eligible, a candidate must be:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who arrived in India before January 1, 1962, with an intent to settle permanently.

2. Age Limit

  • The upper age limit is 32 years as of 1st August 2025 (i.e., candidates must be born on or after 2nd August 1993).
  • For Medical Officers under the Central Health Service, the upper age limit is 35 years.
  • Relaxations apply for reserved categories (SC/ST – 5 years, OBC – 3 years, PwBD – 10 years).

3. Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed the final M.B.B.S. examination (both written and practical).
  • Those awaiting final results may apply, but must provide proof of passing before the interview.
  • Completion of a compulsory rotating internship is required before appointment.

How to Apply for UPSC CMS 2025?

Interested candidates must apply online through the UPSC website (https://upsconline.gov.in). Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. One-Time Registration (OTR):
    • If you are a new applicant, register on the UPSC OTR platform.
    • If already registered, log in and proceed with the application.
  2. Fill the Online Application Form:
    • Provide personal details, qualifications, and preference of services.
    • Upload a recent passport-size photograph (with name & date) and signature.
  3. Pay the Examination Fee:
    • ₹200 for General/OBC candidates
    • Exempted for SC/ST/PwBD/Female candidates
    • Payment modes: Debit/Credit card, Net Banking, or SBI e-Challan.
  4. Submit and Print Application Form:
    • Review all details before final submission.
    • Download and print the confirmation receipt for future reference.

Exam Pattern for UPSC CMS 2025

The exam consists of two stages:

1. Written Examination (500 Marks)

It comprises two papers, each containing 120 multiple-choice questions:

  • Paper I (250 Marks):
    • General Medicine (96 questions)
    • Pediatrics (24 questions)
  • Paper II (250 Marks):
    • Surgery (40 questions)
    • Gynecology & Obstetrics (40 questions)
    • Preventive & Social Medicine (40 questions)

👉 Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deducted for each wrong answer.

2. Personality Test/Interview (100 Marks)

Candidates who qualify for the written exam are called for an interview, which assesses their knowledge, communication skills, leadership qualities, and decision-making abilities.
